Speakers Night,
7 pm Last Saturday of the Month (mostly), please call Lana Kenderdine 250-598-8911
We're looking for speakers and ideas for Speakers Night in 2010. Give Lana a call if you have any interesting ideas.

Saturday 31 July, 7pm Ruth Welburn will give a reading from her recently published historical fiction “The Devil’s Ruse”. She will also answer questions, or run a discussion if it turns out that way. On the elements of the novel: a desperate medical experiment, life in the U.S. under Woodrow Wilson's homeland security during WWI, the controversy surrounding mandatory vaccination in the armed forces, the use of animals in laboratory testing and the full horror of the fall wave of the 1918 influenza pandemic.  Bubbling in the background are lots of questions about viruses and their manipulation, vaccination, war and disease, epidemics and research on them all is funded well and steadily moving ahead.
Bring your questions, point(s) of view and be prepared to evaluate a very interesting and well-researched novel.  Yes, I’ve read small parts of it – it’s very good -- and bits are on the internet at http://offthebookshelf.com/authors/186-ruth-welburn.

Location: Ruth will talk at 7pm at Lana E. Kenderdine's home, 1620 Mortimer Street, (250) 598-8911. To get a map and directions from your place to Lana's house, click on the following blue text, 1620 Mortimer Street, and on the new browser page, click on the blue underlined text 'Get Directions' in the blue bar under the word Google, and enter your starting point as 'A', then click the 'Get Directions' button. If you don't like that blue route in the map, you can change it to a better one by dragging the blue course to other roads. The directions adjust also.
